Build, Protect, and Lead California
Why I’m Running
I’m running for governor to protect and build upon our California way of life. To build our economy, defend our communities, and protect your rights and freedoms in the state that we love.
Californians can’t build a future on empty promises. I’ve spent my career listening to middle class families like the one I came from and helping to build a California that can work for each and every one of us. I’ve never been afraid to stand up to bullies – whether they’re corporations stealing wages from workers or the Trump Administration threatening our rights and freedoms. I’m running because now, more than ever, California needs proven courage and real results.
California has the fifth-largest economy in the world. We’re the economic engine for the country. Folks have always had a shot at the American Dream here.
My parents didn’t go to college, but they had steady jobs and they always had work. Sure, the playing field was never fully level, but it was still possible for families like mine to buy a home, raise four kids, and be able to retire in dignity.
But today, we’re facing an affordability crisis. Homes and rent are too expensive. Folks can barely cover their grocery bills. Healthcare costs are too high.
This is a break-glass moment – for our families, our neighbors, and folks all across our great state.
California’s next Governor needs to understand what our families are facing and be ready to fight like hell alongside them. I do. And I have been fighting and delivering for Californians for decades.
I took on Donald Trump – and won the fight to protect the Affordable Care Act for our families. I took on Big Pharma – and won the battle to lower prescription drug costs. I took on sex traffickers, corporations stealing wages from employees and environmental polluters – and I won every time. Now, it’s time to take on our state’s biggest problems and once again deliver for California.
Here's the California Dream I'm Proposing
My parents, a construction worker and a clerical worker, never had a chance to go to college. They worked hard every single day, building foundations and pouring roads when construction work was light and watching every single penny so they could buy a house and set aside enough to retire in dignity. With the help of junior college and student loans, my sisters and I were able to attend college, and my parents were able to live the California Dream of seeing their kids thrive. That should be the case today for any hardworking family in California – and it’s become out of reach for too many.
That’s unacceptable.
If you put in a full day’s work, we’re going to make sure you’re paid a livable wage.
If you’re trying to start a new business and create jobs in California, we’re going to cut the red tape and make sure that you can launch your business with a partner in the state government.
If you’re raising a family, we’re going to get prices down to make sure you can afford childcare, your rent or your mortgage, and eggs and fresh produce at the grocery store.
And if you’re working hard to give those kids a future, we’re going to invest in local law enforcement to make sure they’re safe in school, you’re safe at home and work, and our cities and towns are safe places where we can all thrive.
