10,000 Donations Totaling Nearly $6 Million: Becerra Campaign Kicks Off General Election with Strong Fundraising Report, Signaling Broad Statewide Momentum
More than 8,300 grassroots donors gave an average of $24 — with teachers leading the way — as campaign enters general election on strong financial footing
LOS ANGELES, CA — The Becerra for Governor campaign announced today that it has raised nearly $6 million from roughly 10,000 donors in the five weeks following the June 2 primary. That total includes 9,703 small-dollar donations from 8,319 individual donors, averaging just $24 apiece — and the most common occupation among those grassroots donors: teacher.
The post-primary surge reflects support from Californians in every corner of the state — workers, teachers, nurses, small business owners, and families uniting behind Xavier Becerra as he advances to the November general election.
“These numbers tell a simple story: Californians are coming together after the primary, and they are uniting behind Xavier Becerra,” said campaign spokesperson Jonathan Underland. “We are seeing voters from every part of this state getting involved — workers, teachers, job creators, families — because the choice in November could not be clearer. Xavier Becerra is a deeply experienced leader with a record of results Californians know and trust. Steve Hilton is a Trump talking head auditioning to bring Washington’s chaos to Sacramento. Voters see the difference, and they’re investing in it.”
The fundraising pace ensures the campaign will have the resources necessary to communicate directly with voters in every media market in California through Election Day.
Xavier Becerra – who served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Joe Biden and as California’s Attorney General, advanced from the June 2 primary alongside Hilton, a former Fox News host endorsed by Donald Trump. Becerra is running on his record of defending workers’ wages, reproductive rights, and immigrant communities, and taking on both a reckless federal government and ruthless corporations on behalf of Californians.
Full fundraising details will be disclosed in the campaign’s semi-annual filing with the California Secretary of State on July 31.
